Experience the passion and grandeur of the opera here in St. Charles. Four of the area's most talented singers will present a program some of opera's most popular arias, duets, trios and quartets.
JON GARRETT is an accomplished recording artist and lyric tenor based in Saint Louis, Missouri. He has performed with Union Avenue Opera, Winter Opera St. Louis, the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus and Stray Dog Theatre. His debut solo recording project “To Find Love There” released in 2010 on the Above Entertainment label. He released the single “There Is Hope” in July 2011 and is a featured artist on the Gospel music albums “My Whole World” and “Magnificent Name” on the same label. He has appeared on numerous Chamber Chorus recordings, including “Songs of the Soul,” “St. Louis Commissions,” and the recently released “A Pageant of Human Life.” He received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Missouri, St. Louis, where he studied piano with Evelyn Mitchell and voice with Dr. Mark Madsen. He currently studies with Alice Montgomery and is the Program Director at St. Louis Family Church in Chesterfield, Missouri.
NORA TEIPEN made her debut with New Opera St. Louis singing the role of Maddalena in Rigoletto. Subsequently she performed the roles of Delilah in Samson and Delilah and the role of Charlotte in Werther both with New Opera St. Louis under the artistic direction of Gina Galati. This past season she performed in Winter Opera's Gala program of scenes and arias. Nora has had concert and oratorio engagements with the Saint Louis Symphony performing in The Prayers of Kierkegaard, Falla’s El Amor Brujo, Mendelssohn’s A Midsummernight’s Dream, Duruflé’s Requiem, and Tschiakovsky’s Eugene Onegin. Ms. Teipen has performed locally with the Opera Theatre of St. Louis, the Masterworks Chorale, and the University City Symphony. She also performed in Honneger’s Joan of Arc at the Stake at the Berkshire Festival as well as with the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh in Dvorak’s Stabat Mater. Ms. Teipen was a semi-finalist in the Vera Scammon competition, a finalist in the Lyric Opera or Chicago competition, and a finalist in the Bartenbach competition. Last fall Ms. Teipen travelled to New Jersey to perform the title role in Opera Seabrook’s production of Carmen. More recently she enjoyed performing with Gail Hintz "A Valentine's Bouquet of Love Songs" on the Con Spirito Series of First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood. Ms. Teipen makes her home in University City.
Recognized by KDHX.org reviewer Missy Miller for her, “rich, colorful tone” and “astounding vocal range,” soprano, SARAH PRICE is rapidly gaining recognition as a powerful lyrical interpreter of opera. Winner of the 2010 St. Louis District Metropolitan Opera Auditions, Ms. Price has performed operatic and concert repertoire throughout the U.S., Italy, Austria and Germany. Roles to her credit include the title role in Puccini’s Tosca, Liú in Turandot, Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana, Hannah in The Merry Widow, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, Countess Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Micaëla in Carmen, among others. Ms. Price has earned a Bachelor of Music from Illinois Wesleyan University and a Master of Music from Bowling Green State University. She currently resides in St. Charles, Missouri and holds the position of Director of Music and Worship Arts at St. John United Church of Christ.
JEFFREY HEYL is from St. Louis where he makes his home with his wife Margret and their four children Samuel, Emily, Mary, & Christopher. Dr. Heyl holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music, the Hartt School of Music & the University of Iowa. He is presently the Director of Music and Worship Arts at Green Trails United Methodist Church Adjunct Faculty at Lindenwood University, a faculty member at the Community Music School and has his own private voice studio. Previously he was on the faculty of Missouri Baptist University, St. Charles Community College and Bluefield College, where he was named to the Faculty Hall of Fame. Dr. Heyl has sung extensively and has appeared in opera, oratorio, recital, and music theatre. Included in his performance experience are collaborations with composers Carlisle Floyd (Susanna), Roger Ames (Requiem for Unbelievers), Jack Beeson (Hello Out There), George Rochberg (The Confidence Man) and leading roles in I Pagliacci, Cavalleria Rusticana, Il Trovatore, Die Fledermaus, The Telephone, and H.M.S. Pinafore and Amahl and the Night Visitors. Locally, Dr. Heyl has sung with the Masterworks Chorale in the Fantasia on Christmas Carols, the Bach Society in the St. John Passion, and the Brahm’s German Requiem with University of Missouri/St Louis and Missouri Baptist University and St Charles Community College in Vaughan Williams’ Hodie and the Fantasy on Christmas Carols. He is presently a soloist with the St. Louis Symphony Chorus having soloed in Summer Sun, Winter Moon, Israel in Egypt, Fidelio and Cantata Profana with conductors Robert Kapelow, Nicholas McGegan, and David Robertson In 2009 he accomplished a long cherished goal of performing Schubert’s Die Winterreise.
